Natural Human Cognitive Creative Thinking Skills can Solve Our Planets Climate Issue

We have tried to point out in this section that currently all the solutions to our biodiversity and climate issues are actually not related to what is actually happening to the planet. Yes these issues are causing our planet extreme grief. Currently we trying to solve the results but are not looking in any great measure at what is causing them in the first place – us humans. All these essays in this section are about how we as humans need to re-learn how to learn. So lets start by

…..but lets first
take a look at ….
the Candle Problem

The candle problem also known as Duncker’s candle problem, is a cognitive performance test, measuring the influence of functional fixedness on a participant’s problem solving capabilities. The test was created by Gestalt psychologist Karl Duncker. and published by him in 1935.

This short essay has a look at how we solve problems and create proper meaningful solutions. We started with a little problem for to get to grips with. We ask that when you attempt the problem think about what you processes are as it will help you understand your own problem solving skills

The challenge is – how do you fix and light a candle onto a wall (a cork board in this case) in a way so the candle wax won’t drip onto the table below. Have fun and don’t cheat.

The Main Obstacle is that our Modern Educational System has devalued our Natural Human Instilled Problem Solving Skills…….

…….massively. To understand this better we started with the candle problem to show you that what is shows in not that much different to how we should be going about solving our climate and biodiversity issues (although the later is a bit more wide ranging). Human race are superb at problem solving. However we also tend to create general apathy towards solving problems if we feel that the problem is not worth solving. This is just the case our climate and biodiversity issues. and was what Al Gore was about in his quote on the home page.

Whatever the reason for this apathy, here at Commonground ReWilding we think one of the main reasons is that we have lost the ability to solve problems like we used to due to our current political influenced educational system. In fact we would so so far as to say people in general feel they can’t meaningfully engage with our actual planetary issues, let alone get involved in solving them. There are no processes in place any wherefor people to get involved and be cognitively creative, even if they are serious worried about our planetary issues. This section is about how you as individuals and in your social groups develop skills.
So welcome to the human learning concept of Autonomy, Mastery and Purpose.

Gap

We need to re-learn how to use our innate human anthropological learning again

Our founders MA professor once said “true debate in the western world is dead”. Both our founder and ourselves tend to agree with that. Stop for a moment that review in your head what human skills have create from the dawn of our time on this planet. Its quite impressive the skills and technologies we have created.

However another professor also told our found that “We currently live in a adolescent society”. Basically if you combine the two we are not nearly mature enough to cope with older technologies let alone the new technological revolution we are current undergoing. The essay below will we hope give you a better idea of, one the human being actually learns and how we need to take a step back to understand what’s at stake here. The survival of the human race.

Autonomy….

is about how individuals can develop control in how they work. In the way task there work in regards when they work and how they work. It is the opposite of the micromanagement environments you tend to find in most businesses. Autonomy is about fostering true ownership and engagement in individuals

It also creates better ways to communicate within teams and social groups. If you have autonomy in what you do and how you do it, you will inevitably at some some have to work together with others. This is where solid communication needs to be developed.

We have expanded Commonground ReWilding’s concept in the essay below – Enjoy

Mastery…..

Requires a growth mindset, deliberate practice, and taking on “Goldilocks tasks” (challenges that are neither too easy nor too hard, putting you in a state of “flow”). We live in a world where master is rarely developed. Our Education system is all about an analytical, logical, and sequential approach to processing information and not much else.

There is very little where we use the right side of our brains. a cognitive style linked to the right hemisphere of the brain, which processes information intitution, in all the ways we view the world. For our natural ingrained learning and problem solving skills to take place we need both hemispheres working together. The right side specifically drives visual imagination, emotional processing, and big-picture synthesis

Purpose …..

…….should be your “North Star” that connects daily work to a meaningful impact, whether that means helping clients, supporting colleagues, or solving a larger societal problem. Purpose is important in achievement

At Commonground we feel that this is primarily down to two areas. The technological revolution that is has not been ingrained in our social way if living. While it is novel and fun we are as societies seriously confused as how it fits into our ways of living. The other is our educational system which does not instil any form of curiosity and as a result we lack much needed cognitive created skills.

….. All this helps develop real “Grit”.

If you want to proper defining of what real grit is about you can’t beat Psychologist Angela Duckworth definition of the term “GRIT”. The idea of effective grit combinations both passion & perseverance. Rather than relying on talent or luck, grit is the stamina & steadfast dedication to stick to an objective over extended periods, especially when facing obstacles or setbacks.

At the core it is also about meaning. If what you do has no meaning then there will be no grit. Its not about mindlessly stamping bottle tops in a factory for twelve hour a day. Grit is grown because you have a passion and reason behind what you are doing.

So now you know how you all develop skills how do we now start to develop them

“the Art Of Storytelling”

“Without change something sleeps inside us seldom awakens.
The sleeper must awaken.

Frank Herbert – Dune

Being the hero in your own story. In fact storytelling underlies everything you have learnt previously. Storytelling is as old as humans have been on this planet. It’s a way for our societies to define what’s has happened in the passed as well as defining social morals, especially what’s expected on people within social groups. In fact we would go as far to say without effective storytelling human and our abilities to create inclusive social groups, humans would not survive.

This section is all about how we must us our innate learning and cognitive creative to create stories about both solving the issues that face our planet and create social stories around how we can create green sustainable ways of living that places nature at the core of our social groups. It is also important to understand that every society is different and will do things different. Imagine enhanced learning we will get because different groups think differently.

We need to Wake the Sleeper in all of us
