The Influence of Human Social Relationships on Heart Disease & Health
While the base aim of Commonground ReWilding is to create real awareness of our Planets issues. One thing became clear to our founder when he was doing his BSc in Science that to achieve this aim you needed to understand the relationship between heart disease and its associates and Social relationships. The “We Simply Show You” concept.

This Concept is not just about practical examples around solving our planets issues. Due to the fact that the these issues are hundred percent caused by the way we live and over-consume there is a fundamental aspect that is human society and the relationships we have. Over the past quarter century you can see an increasing emphasis on individualism and materialism that has effectively diminished the cohesiveness and emotional support provided by our basic social units.
Basically we have become less social. It is our social connections that is at the core of all human achievements. If we are to solve the planets issues we need to redefine our social issues and find ways to work together because ………
if we keep on being diversive and confrontational, refusing to look at the problems, and insist on being cuckolded by our so called lords and master we will never get anywhere near having a planet we cam comfortably live on.
Here’s The Science
The two most recognised studies around social relationships and health we have detailed below. The results are unequivocal, As a race we no longer have social connections that bind us together. After this section we try to explain why this has happened and why as a hype hive race we need to create more and more social relationships like we used to have.
The Town Of Roseto
Medical sociologists have long recognised the importance of community and family structure in the health of individuals. The Power of Clan examines the health effects of social change in a largely Italian-American town over a twenty-five-year period and provides substantial evidence of the protective effect of family bonds and shared social values against coronary heart disease and sudden death. The town was originally built around in 1800s when Italian peasantry move from the slopes of the Apennine mountains near Naples to Pennsylvania.
In fact it was a bit of a medical mystery. If the town had the same high cholesterol diets as the surrounding area, they smoked and drank the same as every else, yet the town did not suffer from the related deceases that afflicted those in surrounding towns why was there no major indicators of cardiovascular disease and similar allemants that affected the general populations in the US and surrounding area . As the towns doctor told Dr Wolff when he visited the town on a walking holiday in the fifties. “The people here just die of old age, simple as that”. This is the medical mystery.
The was found in not in medical issues but in social constructs. Roseto was community where traditional, tight-knit social bonds led to extraordinarily good health. Residents, maintained a close-knit, supportive environment, which fostered low stress and strong social cohesion. This unique, inclusive culture, where respect for the elderly was paramount, was found to be more significant for health than genetics or diet. Its not until the 1980’s when the first death occurred from CHD, this was due to people starting to move out of Roseto and modern American living practices began to infiltrate this tight nit community.

Lessons from the World’s Longest Scientific Study of Happiness
The longest scientific study of happiness—the 85+ year Harvard Study of Adult Development—reveals that wealth, fame, and career success are not the primary drivers of a fulfilling life. Instead, strong, warm relationships are the number one predictor of long-term health, happiness, and longevity. The findings from this landmark research offer profound lessons for our daily lives:
- Relationships Protect Both Body and Brain: Good connections with family, friends, and community are a stronger predictor of a long, healthy life than social class, IQ, or genetics. People in happier relationships experience less mental deterioration and report less physical pain in old age.
- Loneliness is Toxic: Chronic isolation acts as a constant, low-level stressor. It is as detrimental to physical health as smoking, rapidly increases the breakdown of coronary arteries & cognitive function.
- Quality Over Quantity: It is not about the number of friends you have or whether you are in a committed relationship, but the quality and warmth of your close ties that matter.
- Social Fitness Requires Maintenance: Relationships take active care, it’s called “social fitness”. It requires leaning into connections, being empathetic, and giving people your focused attention.
This is all about coming together, being able to express opinions but also accepting others ideas and attitudes. What we have today is a social system that is diversive and individuality. Yes everybody is an individual but we also part of groups, teams and families.

Join the movement! Reimagine communities, integrate nature, and build a sustainable future with us.
What has Social Relationships Got to Do with Resolving Our Planets Issues
At Commonground it has everything to do with resolving these issues. It is clear from fifteen years researching and looking at how we solve our planetary crisis that the solutions needed are engrained in our social beliefs and actions. Al Gore was right all the stuff we need is there right there in front of us. The problem is “us” as in the human race. Our historial social constructs are shot to F***. Excuse the term but it is. We have no family constructs, kids are expected to move out and be independent asap after reaching maturity. We prise and fight violently for the belief around our individual rights.
Yes everyone has the right to express themselves independently but as a race humans are a hyper hive beings. We only succeed because of what has gone before or as Isaac Newton once said “I succeeded because I stood on the shoulders of giants”. What we have forgotten is that there needs to be a social connection between individuality and social constructs. By not having strong social constructs we will never solve this climate crisis because at the core of solving them we need to create real meaningful social attitudes to how we live. At present we are even close to engaging with this vital need.
