If you want to understand what we are saying in regards modern work practise watch the award winning animation from A surrealist animated short from Argentina called The Employment (Santiago Bou Grasso & Patricio Plaza) which is set in a world where every single activity is done by ordinary humans. This is a great description of how the the futility of modern work is for most of the population. We work just the pay the bills in mundane jibs where it is so regimentated that we have no say in how in input into work that is done. Our off time is much like this as well. The idea is that if everyone is working to develop effecient skills the problem is getting these people to be able to work in different groups and teams to solve individual, unique problems. These are the type of groups we need to create if we are to solve effectively our Climate issues.

Commonground ReWilding is about detailing all the issues that come under umbrella of Climate Issues and our drastic Biodiverity Decline. There is believe us a large number of issues. Climate Change solutions is not a single problem. In fact Climate Change itself is not the problem, it is created by a myriad of different problems.

One of those areas under our climate and biodiversity unbrella is about how we work, live and manage businesses. Authentically sustainable not only about protecting the planet, it is also about to a big degree how humans work and live. Its about about learning how to adpat the systems that we have created to live, work and do business that has and is causing Nature so much trouble.

These pages are not just about saying we share everything we earn but also outlining how we work both in teams and individually. Not only that it is also about how people grow working within Commonground.

Using the term Art of…… is based on the belief that we all need to have permission to pause and also be able pursue our passions. If your passions are in line with something we do or are trying to develop then our aim is to encourage people to be able to do something different. Expand skills, enagage with people or bodies outside of the normal work life and the is much more than that.

Developing the Art of Sabbaticals is beneficial to the individual and also to us at Commonground.

Up-side down management allows those that work at making Commonground a success by create more personal environment in the work because everyone is part cognitive creative structure that runs the business. So here are some rather set of bendy rules which we have created to enhance engagement with all that that work and support Commonground.

Rule 1: Always break down a problem into its most basic.
Meaning – Unprejudiced Data is the key source for problem solving.

Rule 2: Never promise something that you can’t deliver
Meaning – Especially with green things, so never say your truly green if you can’t truly back it up as there is always things to do.

Rule 3: Your Project, You’re Lead.
Meaning – Be accountable by delivering great results on projects you are responsible for. If you start a project it is your responsibility to lead.

Rule 4: Don’t waste advice.
Meaning – Follow up on all suggestions.

Rule 5: Understand when you make a mistake
Meaning – Take accountability through Actions, not words.

Rule 6: The Devil is in the Detail
Meaning – Understand everything thats going on with projects. If you are not sure get help

Rule 7: Never take anything for granted.
Meaning – Challenge Everything till you get the answer the works best.

Rule 8: When the job is done, walk away.
Meaning – Execute and do not dwell on the rear-view mirror.

Rule 9: Bend the Rules, don’t break them.
Meaning – Don’t do something just because you have always done it that way. Rules are there for a reason, understand why they are there and how much you can bend them.

Rule 10: Always work as a team.
Meaning – Teamwork makes the Dream work! but don’t forget your own needs and skills.

Rule 11: It’s better to seek forgiveness than ask permission.
Meaning – Let the Consequences of your actions factor into your decisions.

Rule 12: Never mess with anyone’s cuppa tea, if you want to live.
Meaning – Know the team and what’s important to them. 

Rule 13: Steal from all, never blindly copy or imitate one style
Meaning – Always be on the look out for many people who you can learn from and copy from and then adapt that in your own unique way.

Rule 14: When you need help, ask.
Meaning – Create a Team Culture that rewards questions and better understanding.

Rule 15: If it feels like you’re being played, you probably are.
Meaning – Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

Rule 16: Be Present in the ‘Gemba’ and Always have an open-door policy.
Meaning – Gemba is Japanese term for “actual place,” often used for the shop floor or any place where value-creating work actually occurs.

Rule 17: There is no such thing as a coincidence.
Meaning – Drive to the Root Cause in Problem Solving & do not just accept what you cannot prove.

Rule 18: Never accept an apology from somebody who just sucker-punched you.
Meaning – Trust must be earned, not given.

Rule 19: Never leave a mess, clean it up.
Meaning – Always leave your workplace better than you found it.

Rule 20: Sometimes you’re wrong.
Meaning – Acknowledge when you are wrong and learn from your mistakes, never try and hide them.

and finally ‘Semper Gumby’ – Always be flexible in the rules you follow and encourage others
Meaning – Things in life are always fluid, have the courage to adapt your rules when they are proven to be wrong or dispense with them if needed.
