A 2yr Long Launch
The above is apt for the struggles we face in today’s world. Solving our planetary crises is as challenging as it was to go to the moon. If we understand that these crises are not easy but we need to develop our skills and abilities at this time. By doing this we can better organise and measure the very best of energies and skills.
Why Take 2 Years to Launch a Business
There is something about a start-up like ours where the aims and aspiration are vague, sort of side-way’s looking it is difficult to launch within a single event without making it full of sound-bites. As Princess Iurlan said
“At the beginning is the time for taking the most delicate care that the balances are correct”.
We need to create awareness but people are unaware of stuff that they interact everyday but don’t see the problems around sustainability and our planet. To give you an idea of how the very systems around are not geared up to solving our planetary crises. So Let us tell you a Story about our political systems and the problems and ignorance that arise from them. Don’t worry we are not interested about how in the UK our diverse our political systems.
In the UK we basically have three different systems each one has its own statutory rules that they have to follow. We live in Kent. We have the Sevenoaks District Council, the Kent County Council and overlooking both we have the government that set the statutory rules. Then we have different rules that are cut up between the two councils where one collects the waste and the other disposes of it. Neither serious discuss the issues or try to create well round solutions to waste management. In other words the aim should to reduce waste not collect and dispose of ever ending amounts of waste.
Most councils we have spoken two have no idea of how to reduce consumption or what the rate of over-consumption is. They just follow the rules when we should be challenging these rules most heinously. The way we dispose of waste is an excuse of passing the buck SDC blames the KCC or the Gov etc. When was the last time you heard of you council explain anything about our planetary issues that had real meaning and outcomes.

It makes a point, the SDC just follows rules without questions with the excuse they are just following orders. They are not even challenging those rules for the betterment of the planet and the local area. The KCC do the same and the Government so big there no point to make anyway. While this story is just about disconnect between different elected areas who don’t talk, discuss or promote like mind ways to create consumer awareness about reducing consumption.
Its the rigid rules around our local area where those in charge refuse to even bend a bit, to make a point about what is need. Here at Commonground we tend to bend rules if it means we can get a more benign outcome. Its about finding the exceptions that enable us to progress.
So what has the above illustration got to do with a 2yr launch. For us it means we are not creating a set platform to achieve what we do. Actually we are thinking that our aims and aspirations will be one long launch as we struggle to “Show People How wrong things are at the Moment” when it comes to working together to solve our planetary crisies.
The only situation can see is that these three individual electoral systems need to streamlined into one system that flows to the government at the top. I mean look at how our waste system is run. SDC can’t challenge the KCC or the government. If the system is set up so that nothing meaningful ever progresses because of this separation of authority. If our electoral system was streamlined then at least everything would flow and MPs would have much more authority to the areas that voted them in. Councillors would be voted in to help the MP or (MP’s) with what people because they would control smaller areas.
At the moment Commonground is so small as to be insignificant, because it is trying to find itself. This article is about our launch but it also makes the serious point of what a challenge we face in regards saving our planet by creating a local area that develops ways to do things right with the idea of encouraging others to get involved.
